봉사-학습(Service-Learning)을 통한 기독교대학과 지역사회의 협력관계 사례 연구: 지역사회의 목소리를 중심으로 = A Case Study on the Partnership between Christian University and Local Community through Service-Learning: a Focus on the Voices of Community Partners

Service-Learning is one of educational methods to foster servant leaders by linking knowledge and practice in the classroom and the field adopted by the university and local communities. The best educational methods will be decided based on the educational philosophy and purpose as a way to teach the educational contents most effectively and efficiently. The educational purpose of christian university is to make God’s kingdom in this world through teaching students christian truth, which is loving God and one’s neighbor. The neighbor to love is everyone who needs helps, that is the community where the university is located. Based on the partnership between christian university and the community its educational philosophy and purpose can be accomplished.
The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of Service-Learning as a concrete way to build partnership between a christian university and the local community, to lay the foundation by hearing the voice of community from the S-L case implemented at S university. The dialogues of 33 staffs from its’ community partner organizations at evaluation meetings of the first and second semesters in the year 2018 are analysed.
They distinguish Service-Learning from community service by reciprocity, students’ change from immaturity, professionalism, and self-directedness. It is very difficult for them to put up with the service discontinuity after just only one semester, gaps between what students can serve and what community needs to be served, or those between when students can and when community needs. They feel difficult to deal with students’ attitude problem and the constant upheaval of the staffs in charge. They proudly recommend excellent service-learners to the university, and ask for detailed guides on Service-Learning. They report they manage to control appropriate expectations on the students because they are not learned but are learning. Though there remain still many problems to solve, the christian university should make more opportunity to hear from the community and communicate with it to learn and love it better.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

봉사-학습(Service-Learning)은 지식과 실천, 교실과 현장, 대학과 지역사회를 연계하여 섬기는 인재를 양성하는 교육방법이다. 교육방법은 교육철학과 목적에 따라 결정되며, 교육내용을 효과적이고 효율적으로 전달하기 위한 과정이다. 기독교대학의 교육철학과 목적은 학생들이 기독교의 진리를 배우고 실천해서 이 땅에 하나님 나라를 이루는 것이며, 기독교대학이 가르쳐야할 진리의 핵심은 ‘하나님 사랑, 이웃 사랑’이다. 우리가 사랑해야할 이웃은 도움이 필요한 모든 사람이며, 가깝게는 지역사회일 것이다. 기독교대학의 교육철학과 목적을 실현하기 위해서는 대학과 지역사회의 협력관계가 중요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 대학과 지역사회 협력의 구체적인 방법으로 봉사-학습의 가능성을 밝히고, S여대 사례를 통해 지역사회의 목소리를 반영한 협력의 기초를 마련하는 것이다. 사례는 2017년 1, 2학기 S여대 봉사-학습 협력기관의 담당자 33명이 참여한 평가회와 설문을 분석하였다.
지역사회는 봉사-학습의 가장 큰 특징인 ‘상호호혜성’, ‘학생들의 미숙함과 변화’를 이해하고 있었으며, ‘학생들의 전문성과 자기주도성’을 일반 사회봉사와의 가장 큰 차이로 생각했다. 어려운 점은, 봉사-학습이 한 학기 수업으로 운영되기 때문에 ‘지속성의 단절’과, ‘활동내용과 기관 요구의 차이’를 조정하는 것과, 기관과 학생의 ‘활동가능 시간의 차이’를 맞추는 것이다. 또한 ‘봉사태도 지도’의 어려움, ‘기관 담당선생님의 잦은 변경’이 해결해야할 문제점이다. 우수한 봉사-학습 활동과 학생에 대해서는 적극 칭찬하며 추천했으며, ‘봉사-학습에 대한 상세한 안내’와 ‘학생활동에 대한 적절한 기대수준’의 필요성을 제안하였다. 대학과 지역사회 간에 해결되기 어려운 문제들이 여전히 존재하지만, 특히 기독교대학은 사랑하고 섬겨야할 대상으로서 지역사회와의 소통의 기회를 지속적으로 가지면서 서로의 상황과 비전을 공유하고 이해하려고 노력하며 협력관계를 만들어가야 할 것이다.
