The purpose of this study is to review women's career barriers with a theoretical perspective on career counseling. Although physical sex differences appear to be less important as factors in occupational choices than in the past, the psychological and social aspects of sex differences require special consideration. Certain Fields have tended to develop as men's and women's fields. Perhaps in no case is one sex completely excluded, but in a few fields the ratio of males to females runs higher than ninety nine to one. In contrast, many fields that have recently undergone rapid expansion tend to include a large proportion of women.
Therefore, career counselors have been admonished to be alert and aware so as not to reflect society's past restrictive practices for women. In addition, career counselors must develop a comprehensive theory of career counseling and make a systematic program of career assistance.
