    Nowadays airplane fuel requirements are largely divided into FAR and JAR. Among these fuel requirements contingency fuel, that is one of legal reserve fuel, is loaded for compensating deviation, that might be occurred during flight between flight plan and actual flight. Our fuel requirements are sticking to FAR and FAR requires the amount of 10% of flight time for contingency fuel, while JAR requires that of 5% of trip fuel. Nevertheless FAR requires the amount of 5 % of flight time for contingency fuel when airlines get the approval of the Operations Specifications B343, but we do not apply that kind of clause now. The amount of 10% of flight time is equivalent to more than 8% of trip fuel. This means that our contingency fuel requirements are on the high side. This study has focused on the fuel requirements comparison between FAR and JAR and between FARs(10% and 5%), specifically contingency fuel requirements, and analyzed the effectiveness between those methods. Roughly estimated, domestic major airlines are able to reduce 54.2 billion won per year when our fuel requirements are changed into JAR.
