The purpose of this study was to survey on how students perceived the university ranking and how much they depended on the private education according to their parents' social class.
The results of this study were as following: Students whose parents belonged to the higher social class perceived the existence of the university ranking. They considered the conditions of the prestigious universities as following written in order; the percentage of employment, the faculty of teaching staffs, the scores of the incoming students' SAT, the scale of the universities, and the type of establishment.
The students from the higher class perceived that the graduates of the prestigious universities would have advantage of the ones of the low-prestigious universities in finding employment and getting promotion. So would the graduates of the universities located in Seoul compared with the universities in provinces. The students of the higher social class perceived the place of being trained would be more important in success than their faculty. The students from the rich families were perceived to have more chance to enter the prestigious universities. Taking more private education would be conducive to the score of SAT and the GPA in the university. The higher they belonged to social class, the more they took private education and the more they perceived the existence of university ranking.
