With the acceleration of urban regeneration projects, the conversion of abandoned railway sites into linear parks has emerged as a vital strategy for securing continuous green spaces within dense urban environments. However, existing studies have primarily focused on policy backgrounds and formation processes, lacking empirical analysis on how specific physical park elements influence user satisfaction. Therefore, this study aims to empirically analyze the relationship between user perceptions of various park components—such as vegetation, water spaces, facilities, and historical elements—and their overall satisfaction, focusing on the case of Gyeongui Line Forest Park.
The study employed a questionnaire survey targeting park users, and the collected data were analyzed using frequency analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The key findings of the study are as follows:
First, the analysis of user behavior revealed that the park is primarily utilized by young adults in their 20s for the purposes of walking and resting. The high reliance on subway access and the prevalence of short-term stays (30 minutes to 1 hour) indicate that the park functions as a space for daily leisure and transit rather than for long-term stay.
Second, through principal component analysis, user perceptions of the park were structured into seven factors: space use and experience, eco-environmental function, tree composition, historical and cultural characteristics, understory vegetation, water spaces, and rest/facility support. Correlation analysis further confirmed that these elements are perceived not as isolated features but as interconnected components of a comprehensive park experience.
Third, multiple regression analysis identified specific determinants of user satisfaction across these factors.
