세 시점 자료를 활용한 대학 몰입의 영향요인 및 학업성취도에 대한 효과 분석 : Tinto의 대학-학생 상호작용 모델 적용을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 세 시점 종단데이터와 Tinto의 대학-학생 상호작용 모델을 활용하여 초기 대학 몰입 형성에 기여하는 대학 입학 전 학생 특성을 밝히고, 이러한 초기 대학 몰입이 학생이 대학 내 학업 및 사회적 체제에 통합되는 정도에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 그리고 학업적 통합 및 사회적 통합은 후기 대학 몰입과 학업성취도와 어떤 구조적 관계를 갖는지 규명하는 데 목적으로 두고 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 ‘한국종단교육연구2005’의 6차년도와 7차년도, 9차년 도 자료가 있는 4년제 대학 재학생들의 자료를 분석하였다. 즉 4년제 대학 재학생들의 대학 입학 이전 교육적 특성과 대학 재학 중 교육 경험을 연계한 자료를 바탕으로 구조회귀모형을 활용하여 대학 입학 전 학생 특성-초기 대학 몰입-대학 재학 중 학업 및 사회적 통합 정도-후 기 대학 몰입-학업성취도 간 구조적 관계를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 구조회귀모형 분석에서 부모의 지원 정도가 높을수록, 수능등급이 높을수록, 학 생의 초기 대학 몰입 정도가 높았다. 초기 대학 몰입 정도는 학업적 통합과 사회적 통합에 긍정적인 영향을 주었으며, 학업적 통합은 다시 후기 대학 몰입에 긍정적인 영향을 준다는 결과가 도출되었다. 하지만 다른 요인의 영향을 통제했을 때, 대학 재학 중 사회적 통합은 후 기 대학 몰입에 부정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 초기 대학 몰입은 학업적 통합과 사 회적 통합을 매개로 후기 대학 몰입에 영향을 미치지만, 직접효과는 유의미하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 후기 대학 몰입은 부모의 교육 지원 수준과 입학 전 수능등급의 영향을 고 려했을 때에도 대학에서의 학업성취도에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to examine determinants of pre- and post- commitment to institution and their effect on academic performance as measured by college GPA(grade point average). In pursuit of this inquiry, this study is theoretically anchored by Tinto's interactionist theory of college student departure. This study particularly focuses on investigating the structural relationship between initial commitment to institution at the time of college entrance, academic and social integration during college attendance, post institutional commitment, and college GPA. For this, this study employs structural equation modeling(SEM) and KELS longitudinal data collected at three different time points. The analysis of SEM shows that family support and academic preparation during high school influence initial commitment to institution at the time of college entrance. According to SEM analysis, initial commitment to institution affects greater integration into academic and social system within college. Greater academic integration then subsequently leads to post commitment to institution, and finally leads to higher college GPA. On the other hand, social integration is found to affect post institutional commitment negatively, after controlling for various confounding variables. This study also finds that academic and social system within college mediates the effect of initial institutional commitment on post institutional commitment. Finally, this study reveals that post institutional commitment affects college GPA, even after accounting for the effect of family support and academic preparation during high school.
