TANiSys is a computer integrated engineering system for the low-rise metal buildings that have tapered columns and rafters. This paper discusses a model for the computer-integrated construction (CIC) system applied to TANiSys. Conceptually, TANiSys is composed based on the three-tiered architectural model. It is composed of a central engineering database as the data management tier, the interface applications and an object library as the process tier, and the field applications for each engineering process as the engineer interface tier. The central database takes charge of the data flow and sharing between the field applications. The field applications may be commercial programs or newly developed programs for each engineering process. The interface applications link the local databases or data files of the field applications to the central database. This paper also describes the process model and the product model for the engineering process of the lowrise metal buildings.
