The thesis discusses the function and significance of literary criticism in literary reading education, focusing the criticism on Sowol Kim’s “Sanyuhwa”. Firstly, I research the present state in the education of literary criticism. The education of literary criticism is regarded as a very important part of curriculum. Secondly, focusing on the Criticism on Sowol Kim’s ‘Sanyuhwa’, I investigate the function and significance of literary criticism in literary reading education. A field is open for students to dialogue with the others through learning the critical essay and the controversial issues of interpretation is made. Thirdly I reconstruct the education of literary criticism from the educational point of view. The the education of literary criticism should be the field to exchange public opinion and to judge and utter on the text.
