The purpose of this study is to examine problems in current Korean textbooks and suggest improvement measures with focus on the two functions of curriculum implementation and teaching and learning materials on the recognition that textbooks are ``materials for curriculum-based teaching and learning``. In the perspective of ``curriculum``, it is required to interpret curriculum in a flexible way by avoiding too much emphasis on completeness of Korean textbooks, secure continuity of learning by making up for weak points in the curriculum, and make improvement to ensure that test measures are established to reflect value and viewpoint of textbook developers. In the perspective of ``teaching and learning materials``, textbooks should be the tools not only for teaching in class but also for providing a meaningful experience of reading as text for student readers and providing materials that can help students develop creative and critical ability of Korean language.
