This study explored the experience and meanings of acceptance and commitment art therapy for a mother of a child about entering elementary school. A study participant was a 30-year-old woman. The study conducted 8 therapy sessions aiming at reducing the anxiety of the mother and her child. During the research process, the study collected psychological test results, session-specific artworks, journals, transcripts, and daily experience logs and analyzed these using the narrative method developed by Clandinin and Connelly (2000). The analysis of her experiences revealed five narrative themes: “The rigid framework that confined me,” “What the rigid framework produced,” “Breaking free from the framework,” “Discovering my own path,” and “Walking on my path.” These experiences were interpreted to encompass five key meanings: “Discovering the conceptualized self,” “Breaking free from the past to dwell in the here-and-now,” “Art as a way to face the true self,” and “Moving forward toward values.” In summary, this study demonstrated that the mother could recognize her anxiety and tendencies to control her child through the acceptance and commitment art therapy, enabling her to focus on the present moment and commit to pursuing values genuinely cherishing her. Based on these findings, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
