This study explored the training analysis experience of a newlywed art therapist and meanings discovered from therapy process. This study vividly presented the researcher’s experience using a narrative inquiry approach. The researcher, who was both the study participant and a newlywed woman in her 30s, was a freelance art therapist. The therapist conducted 20 training analysis sessions before and after marriage from December 2022 to May 2024. The training analysis experience of the participant was categorized as follows: ‘Facing the shadow of expectations,’ ‘Carrying the weight of responsibility,’ and ‘Sensing the emergence of courage.’ Based on these narratives, the following meanings were generated: ‘Recognizing and accepting the self as an observer,’ ‘Finding the value of my being through self-compassion,’ and ‘Building relationships through flexible choices and actions.’ Through the process of self-acceptance, the newlywed art therapist developed psychological flexibility, which contributed to enhanced professional competency in clinical practice. Furthermore, this study examined how the training analysis influenced the formation of identity and psychological individuation during the transitional life stage of marriage. Based on these findings, the study discussed its broader implications and significance.
