노인의 삶의 유형 = Study on Life Type of Elderly People

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify structural patterns in the subjective life types in elderly people and to provide a base for interventions.
Method : Twenty-two elderly people participated in this study. Q-methodology based on self-psychology and abductive logics was used in this study. Selection of Q-sample: a total of 33 representative statements from 28 categories were selected. Selection of P-sample: 22 elders were selected according to inclusion criteria of abilities in communication and orientation, and agreement to participate.
Results : The results showed four different life type. 1) the reality-oriented type attached importance to present life 2) the self-management oriented type overcame physical decline, accepted the aging phenomenon, and practiced regular body management. 3) the relationship-oriented type had a close-knit relationship with their family and neighbours, and did many religious activities and community service 4) the self-reflective type accepted the adjustments of physical change, lived a careful life, and developed reflective acceptance of self.
Conclusion : These results show that investigating the specific experience, characteristic and structure of the life types of elderly people can be useful in nursing assessment and also provides useful basic data for interventions over the life span.
