This research project is aimed to develop a mega foundation technology with improved durability and economy which mainly consists of steel-composite pile foundation using the steel casing of drilled shaft as a structural member. In doing so, the objectives are three folded: (1) to maximize the bonding between steel casing and concrete, which is necessary for the unified behavior of steel-composite pile foundation, (2) to minimize corrosion of casing, and (3) to provide a guide for the design and construction of steel-composite pile foundations including the results from numerical simulations and experimental tests. In addition, methods for bridge scour analysis and counter measures will be provided for cases where steel-composite pile foundation is used in off-shore applications.
