The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of practitioner's predictors on the mental health service engagement of transition age youth. In particular, this study examined how practitioner's professional characteristics were related to mental health service engagement controlling for organizational attributes. Previous studies provided some evidence that service provider level factors predicted client treatment continuation beyond clients’ individual factors. A cross-sectional survey design was used to address the research questions. The results showed that it was not the static demographic variables that predicted service engagement, but potentially modifiable factors, including service barriers and case load size, and organizational attributes. These findings may give important leads as to which interventions might result in improvements in TAY service engagement. These findings are critical for social workers and other allied human service professionals who are responsible for working across systems with youth and young adults in transition. In addition, these findings may give important leads as to which interventions might result in improvements in TAY service engagement.
