Depression and anxiety disorders are the most common phychiatric disorders in people aged 65 and over. No studies have investigated the depression and anxiey disorders in community-dwelling older persons in Korea, and there is a need for a standardized screening instrument. We assessed Korean Minimum Data Set-Home Care (MDS-HC) 2.0 in the community-dwelling elderly population, selected randomly from Seoul, a city, and a rural area. A total of 452 persons aged 65 years and older completed Korean MDS-HC 2.0 from 11/15/1999 to 02/14/2000. As a result, Depression and anxiety was evident in 22.5% of the participants. Women showed increased risk of depression and anxiety than men. There was no significant difference in depression and anxiety prevalence according to age, education level, medical insurance type, co-living persons, and resident area. Number 1 to 10 Client Assessment Protocols (Caps) for the aged with depression and anxiety were preventive health measures, health promotion, visual function, cognition, pain, social function, communication disorders, oral health, environmental assessment, and falls. The Caps of health promotion, visual function, cognition, pain, social function, oral health, and falls were higher in prevalence for the aged with depression and anxiety. There is a need to concentrate on service to solve these problems for the aged with depression and anxiety.
