Hegel could be seen as the first political philosopher who included and analysed the fundamental problems of the modern society in a philosophical frame while analysing the birth of modern West in the context of world history. The development of western modernity described by Hegel is a process of self-understanding of modern West, and at the same time a process of the West's understanding mechanism of others. Eurocentrism itself can be seen essentially as an expression of ways to understand oneself as well as others which appeared in the development of the modern western society. In that sense, the principle of modernity and the essence of Eurocentrism described by Hegel are connected with each other in principle. In particular, this study aims to investigate the inherent dual structure of the Eurocentrism, that are universalism and self-centeredness, and analyse its ideological origin.
