This essay focused on showing the potentiality of our poetic drama, specifically, Choi In-hoon`s work "Doong Doong Nakrangdoong". In this essay, I searched how poetic tools, such as rhythm, image and symbol, are jointly mixed together and tried to show characteristics of drama and poem rather than supporting a logic which indicates that poems must contain certain standards. Choi uses rhythm of repetitive that go in gear with margins and silence to enter the world of poem from the reality. Plot is developed by polysemy of language and ironical foreshadowing. In the play, the setting of the queen, being a princess of Nakrang, the queen of Ko-kooryu and priest at the sametime, is nothing but an irony. Also, on the last scene, the appearance of white boned messenger from the heaven who is indifferent about holding the chopped head of the prince and cutting the queen`s head to bring the both of them to the heaven, and the appearance of a dwarf who wears king`s crown and queen`s skirt, haughty but sorrowful, makes the audience and the reader to forget the sorrow from the tragic ending of love which develops the story. At the beginning, the motif of love between the prince and princess become dramatization by the author Choi`s imagination, but after the tragedy, accident, the spirit of writer symbolically appears by image. This drama, by violating the taboo of society by having a prohibited love relationship, recovers pliancy that pristine human beings lost. Moreover, this drama, through the white boned messenger and the dwarf, makes the audience and the reader to feel the power of art by describing the human beings, which are wiped out on the stage. In this drama the audience and the reader have to re-fill the implication that are forgotten after the drama ends. Combining tragic death and contrastive mood of festival shows tragic ecstasy and maximize the effect of poetic drama. "Doong Doomg Nakrangdoong" provided a new starting point of identifying of Korean poetic drama by solving how to control the poetic will and self will to make rhythm through image and symbol.
