      This syudy attempts to explore the function and land use of the new central area of Daejeon city. On the basis of an in-depth field survey on 1,488 points around Dunsan-Dong from September to October 2008, it draws up the land use map of the case study area. In sum, the main results of the survey are as follows. First, new central area of the city shows the representative function of the Central Business District in which high-order tertiary economic activities centering around producer services are concentrated. Second, there is a strong tendency that the vertical pattern of land use in the case study area is in direct associated with the size and rental value of space required and the convenience of customer use. Third, there is a clear distinction between the existing city center originated naturally and the new city center created artificially.
