A fisherman's song refers to the song of boating play which is in line with the writer's experiences and has the formation of literature, thus highlighting the characteristics of their days and reflecting their life environment. An illustrious official as its writer presents the description of four seasons and expresses his elegant inner world. He diverts the subject materials of fisherman's life to a variety of things, thus enjoying his rural life via going boating, contemplatively observing fresh-caught fish, viewing the tide, fishing, and singing and dancing to the accompaniment of musical instruments. An illustrious official is equipped with the ideology of Sung Confucianism and practices loyalty and filial piety as his practical ethics of which origin can be traced back to the code of Silla chivalry. One example of boating plays has been recently discovered in Hahoe Village, Andong, and its core activity is to recite poems on the boat.
