Finding a solution to establish a new role of the child welfare facilities in Daegu city is one of the greatest challenges faced by today. This study was aimed to find a solution to improve the child social welfare centers in Daegu city. We analyzed the present situation of the child social welfare centers in Daegu city and compared them with those located at other six major cities in Korea. And directors of the child social welfare centers in Daegu city were surveyed to examine their desire and plans to improve the centers. The results suggested a solution regarding the recruitment of social workers, the activation of the relationship between city government, social welfare centers and research organizations, the activation of group home, the adoption of more specialized services, the placement support program for returning their parents, and establishing co-operated community system with relative centers if child welfare.
