This paper reconfigures the process, status, features of the documents of Joseon Tongsinsa, which was newly listed as a UNESCO Memory of the World Register in 2017.
First, we looked at the registration process. The registration process is divided into activities before and after March 4, 2014, which agreed to promote joint listing. Prior to the consensus, it was confirmed that the research was conducted through academia researches, enlightenment activities and symposiums of private organizations, and after the consensus, application documents were submitted and promoted from the selection of the target data centered on the joint academic committees of the two countries.
Second, we looked at the current status and characteristics of the data. The documents of Joseon Tongsinsa classified as ‘Diplomatic Records’(5 items 51 points), ‘Journey Records’(65 items 136 points) and ‘Cultural Exchange Records’(41 items 146 points) Based on the mutual trust represented by ‘trust’ and shared a sense of honest feelings and exchanged ‘interests’ was the result of ‘Sincinnity’. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the mutual exchange through the documents of Joseon Tongsinsa was the material that proved that it contributed greatly to the mutual trust and friendship between the parties of the exchange as well as the friendship relationship and cultural development between the two countries.
In this way, the documents of Joseon Tongsinsa can provide wisdom to solve the common problems of humanity that should aim for permanent peaceful coexistence and respect for interculturalism with the peaceful and intellectual heritage proven by the historical experiences of both countries.
