The purposes of this study were to find the difference in leisure constraint, leisure motivation and leisure satisfaction according to visually-impaired persons' socio-demographic characteristics, and to examine the effect of visually-impaired persons' leisure constraint and leisure motivation on their leisure satisfaction. To achieve such purpose, the purposeful sampling, widely used among non-probability sampling methods, was used to select, as population hereof, visually-impaired persons using visually-impaired persons' facilities in Korea, and a total of 230 sets of data were drawn. Out of the total of 230, 197 sets became the final purposive sample for this study after excluding 33 questionnaires for which some responses were missing or were not made in good faith. For use as survey tool, questionnaires of preceding studies were revised and complemented. In terms of survey procedure, the author hereof initially called various facilities for visually-impaired persons in Korea, and requested consent and cooperation in advance by fully explaining the intent and purpose of the study. Then, the author and assistants visited the facilities, fully explained the intent and purpose of the study to potential surveyees, and surveyed only those who willingly participated in the survey. Especially, as regards survey method, due to the surveyees' characteristics, an assistant read the questionnaire to a surveyee and took dictations (1:1 interview method) or a surveyee himself/herself read and filled in the braille questionnaire (self-administered method), and then the result was promptly collected there. As for statistical analysis of the collected data, the SPSS Window (version 18.0) statistical program was used for computer processing, and frequency analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted. therefore Conclusions are as follows.
First, visually-impaired persons' socio-demographic characteristics (gender, age, level of education, disability ratings) brought about partial difference in leisure constraint, leisure motivation and leisure satisfaction. Specifically, visually-impaired persons' age and disability ratings brought about difference in leisure constraint, with their age bringing about difference in leisure motivation, and with their gender, age, level of education and disability ratings bringing about difference in leisure satisfaction.
Second, it was shown that visually-impaired persons' leisure constraint had partial effect on sub-factors of the leisure satisfaction. Specifically, external (environmental or economic) constraint had effect on environment satisfaction, and internal constraint had effect on psychological or educational satisfaction.
Third, it was shown that visually-impaired persons' leisure motivation had partial effect on sub-factors of the leisure satisfaction. Specifically, non-decisive, social, and competence motivations had effect on environment satisfaction, with social, competence, and intellectual motivations having effect on physical satisfaction, and with leisure and competence motivations having effect on leisure satisfaction. Also, non-decisive, social, competence, and intellectual motivations had effect on social satisfaction, and non-decisive, leisure, social, competence, and intellectual motivations had effect on psychological or educational satisfaction.
This study is expected to propose appropriate strategies and methods so that visually-impaired persons can enjoy leisure and satisfactorily utilize leisure time in a better environment.
