본 연구는 대사성 증후군 증상을 가진 뇌졸중 편마비 장애인들을 대상 (n=9)으로 18주간의 걷기운동이 신체조성 및 혈압, 혈청 글루코스, 인슐린, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, TC, 그리고 혈청 CRP의 수준에 미치는 효과를 구명하였다. 걷기운동은 체중현가장치를 이용하였으며 운동강도는 Hugues 등 (2003) 그리고 Pohl 등 (2002)의 방법을 일부 수정하여 적용 하였다. 18주간 트레드밀 걷기운동을 실시한 결과 신체조성 및 혈압(수축기혈압), 혈청 글루코스, 인슐린, lipid pfofiles (TC, LDL-C, TG) 와 혈청 CRP 농도가 유의한 수준으로 개선된 것으로 나타났다. 특히 흥미로운 점은 체중현가장치를 이용한 트레드밀 걷기 운동을 적용한 후 편마비 장애인들의 걷기기능이 향상되었다는 점이다. 본 연구를 통해 대사성증후군 증상을 가진 편마비 장애인들에 있어서 체중현가장치를 이용한 규칙적인 걷기 운동이 신체활동 저하로 인한 심혈관 질환 및 대사성증후군과 같은 2차적 질병의 예방 및 치료에 긍정적인 효과를 가져 올 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

We investigated walking exercise for 18 weeks on body composition, serum glucose, insulin, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, TG, and C-reactive protein. The subjects participated for this study were nine stroke hemiplesic person with metabolic syndrome. All subjects had been performed treadmill walking exercise with weight support for eighteen weeks. six month. exercise intensity was gradually increased according to Hugues et al(2003) and Pohl et al (2002) protocol. Even though we did not represent as table, walking performance was remarkably improved throughout this study. Body composition including weight, body fat, BMI was significantly reduced after walking exercise (p<.05). Also systolic blood pressure was significantly decreased (P<.05), however, diastolic pressure shows tendency to decrease, but It was not reached significant level. Blood glucose and insulin level were significantly decreased after walking exercise. And serum TC, LDL-C, and TG were significantly decreased (P<.05) after walking exercise. Interestingly, blood C-reactive protein level also remarkably decreased after exercise. Even though we did not represent as table, Walking performance was remarkably improved through this study.
These results suggest that walking exercise for l8weeks positively effects on body composition, serum lipid profile and CRP level. And It might be concluded that serum CRP level is intimately related with body composition and metabolic syndromes in stroke hemiplesic person.
