In 1970's~80's the women occupied more than 80% among the 25,000 labors working in the Pyounghwa market. In the workplace and work process with gender hierarchy was they subalterns.
In Cheonggye Apparel Labor Union organized in 1970, the most union members were women labors. But in Labor Union were there the gender hierarchy of the man leaders and the many women union members, too. However they attempted to run for the woman heads of the local branch in 1976, 1978. And after the forced dissolution of union in 1981, also in the period of the closed-door activities in 1986, women leadership appeared and took a very active part, however after men were released, women leaders were excluded.
By Oral History this study confirmed that in the activities of (Labor) Union Pyounghwa market women labors reproduced the gender awareness received in the family and society. But it was confirmed that women labors were never passive in the gender hierarchy.
