Globalization and transnational processes have posited new challenges in anthropological research methods, which have traditionally been characterized with solid grounding in their research sites and subjects. These methodological challenges, however, have opened a new horizon in which fruitful research possibilities, including "multi-sited ethnography" could be pursued and elaborated. Based on a number of representative anthropological research cases on food and eating, this paper explores new possibilities in comprehending the process of globalization and its many dimensions. Food and eating have long been emphasized in anthropological studies due to their symbolic richness, regularity in everyday life, and social implications. The close relationship between food and human body has helped to produce a multitude of symbolic notions that have formed a fertile ground for cultural hybridization and transformation. This also leads to a new definition of identities of individuals and social groups. Following certain food items and eating habits through history and across borders also allows us to better understand the complex processes of globalization. Food and earing as identity building / maintaining mechanism, food and class in domestic and global order, notions of universalism, particularism, and hybridization are examined with relevant research cases in this paper.
