시각예술 온라인 아카이브 쟁점 분석 및 사례 연구 = Analysis of Key Issues and Case Studies on Visual Art Online Archives

As we enter the era of 21st-century culture, visual art records, which perform a cyclical function of documenting the artistic activities of artists and works and, in turn, becoming resources or artistic subjects for further artistic activities, are increasingly recognized for their value and necessity. In this context, the value and necessity of visual art online archives, which collect, manage, preserve, and provide visual art records online based on digitization, have garnered heightened attention, leading to the emergence of institutions that construct and operate such archives.

However, a close examination of the currently operating domestic visual art online archives reveals various issues that degrade their professionalism and reliability. As digital technology advances, access to visual art records is demanded online, and the public nature of visual art archives and the potential for value creation through the resourcefulness of visual art records are intensifying the need for online visual art archives. To further develop and invigorate visual art online archives, it is necessary to clearly identify and comprehensively analyze the issues arising in their construction and operation.

This study provides a comprehensive review of the tasks and problems that visual art online archives must solve by analyzing their current status and preceding studies. The major issues identified include copyright policy, ① ② evaluation standards, ③ metadata, ④ search services, and ⑤ authenticity and NFTs. Among the five issues identified, this study conducted a case study based on the framework of issue-specific analysis, focusing on issues that could be confirmed and analyzed in currently operating instances: ① copyright policy, ② evaluation standards, ③ metadata, ④ search services. The subjects of the case study were Rhizome ArtBase, Asia Art Archive (AAA), and THE Art Archives, Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA AA), each selected for their valid value as analysis targets. Comprehensive analysis was carried out on each institution according to the analytical framework. Firstly, visual art online archives need to establish clear missions and objectives, and allocate expert personnel for each task. Also, designing a specific collection system and building a three-dimensional online service for non-experts is required. Secondly, in terms of evaluation standards, ensuring professionalism in the evaluation process and developing concrete evaluation criteria and step-by-step evaluation procedures that align with the institution's purpose and mission are necessary. Thirdly, in terms of copyright policy, it's important to prepare specific provisions for online provision in the copyright permission letter, provide an easy-to-understand copyright policy through the website, and utilize CCL. Fourthly, exploring the possibility of using LOD is necessary regarding metadata. Lastly, in terms of search services, various search filters should be provided to enable effective search and a search service that provides the context of visual art records should be constructed.

By comprehensively analyzing previous studies, this paper identifies key issues currently under discussion regarding visual art online archives and proposes measures for their construction and operation based on these issues. As research on visual art online archives continues, it is anticipated that this study will serve as a useful reference material for the development direction and tasks of visual art online archives.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

시각예술기록은 예술의 과정과 맥락을 증명하는 기록으로 작가와 작품의 예술 활동을 증명하며 다시, 예술 활동의 자원이 되거나 예술적 대상이 되는 순환적 기능을 수행한다. 이와 같은 시각예술기록은 21세기 문화의 시대를 맞이 하며 그 가치와 중요성이 점차 대두되고 있다. 그리고 이러한 맥락에서 디지 털화를 기반으로 하여 온라인상에서 시각예술기록을 수집, 관리, 보존하며 활 용할 수 있게 제공하는 시각예술 온라인 아카이브에 대한 관심이 증가하였고, 이에 따라 시각예술 온라인 아카이브를 구축하고 운영하는 기관이 나타나기 시작하였다.

그러나 현재 운영되고 있는 국내 시각예술 온라인 아카이브를 살펴보면 여러 측면에서 시각예술 온라인 아카이브의 전문성과 신뢰성을 저하시킬 수 있는 다양한 과제가 나타나고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 디지털 기술의 발전에 따라 시각예술기록에 대한 접근 방법이 온라인으로 요구되고 있으며, 이와 함께 시 각예술 아카이브가 갖는 공공재적 성격과 시각예술기록의 자원화를 통한 가치 창출의 가능성 등에 의하여 시각예술 온라인 아카이브의 필요성이 점차 고조되고 있는 오늘날, 시각예술 온라인 아카이브의 발전과 활성화를 위해서 는 이와 같은 시각예술 온라인 아카이브가 직면한 과제를 명확하게 확인하고 이를 종합적으로 분석하는 연구가 필요하며, 이를 통해 시각예술 온라인 아카이브의 발전적 방향과 과제를 논의할 필요가 있다.

이에 본 연구는 시각예술 온라인 아카이브의 현황 분석과 함께 선행연구를 분 석하여 시각예술 온라인 아카이브가 해결해야 하는 과제를 종합적으로 살펴보았으며 이를 통해 , 시각예술 온라인 아카이브 주요 쟁점으로 ①저작권 정책 ② 평가 기준 ③메타데이터 ④검색 서비스 ⑤진본성과 NFT를 도출하였다. 그리고 도출된 쟁점 5가지 중 현재 운영되고 있는 사례에서 확인 및 분석이 가능한 쟁 점인 ①저작권 정책 ②평가 기준 ③메타데이터 ④검색 서비스를 기준으로 쟁점 별 분석의 틀을 설정하여 사례연구를 실시하였다. 사례 대상은 분석 대상으로 서 유효한 가치가 있는 리좀아트베이스, 아시아 아트 아카이브, 서울시립 미술 아카이브를 선정하였으며, 각 기관을 분석틀에 따라 종합적으로 분석하였다. 시각예술 온라인 아카이브는 첫째, 운영 측면에 있어 명확한 사명 및 목적을 수립 해야 하며, 이와 함께 업무별로 전문 인력을 투입할 필요가 있다. 또한 구체적인 수집 제도를 설계할 필요가 있으며, 비전문가를 위한 입체적 온라인 서비스 구축 도 마련할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 평가 기준에서 있어서 평가 과정의 전문성을 확보해 야 하며 이와 함께 기관의 목적 및 사명에 부합하는 구체적인 평가 기준과 단계별 평가 절차 및 기준을 마련할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 저작권 정책에 있어서는 저작물 이용 허락서 내 온라인 제공을 위한 구체적 조항을 마련하고, 이해하기 쉬운 저작 권 정책을 웹사이트를 통해 제공할 필요가 있으며 이와 함께 CCL을 활용할 필요 가 있다 넷째, 메타데이터와 관련해서는 LOD의 활용 가능성을 모색할 필요가 있 다. 마지막 다섯째, 검색 서비스에서는 이용자 측면의 다각적 검색 서비스를 제공 하기 위해 먼저 효과적인 검색을 가능하게 하는 다양한 검색 필터를 제공해야 하 며, 이와 함께 시각예술기록의 맥락을 제공하는 검색 서비스를 구축해야 한다.

본 논문은 선행연구의 종합적 분석을 통해 현재 논의되고 있는 시각예술 온라 인 아카이브에 관한 주요 쟁점을 도출하였으며, 도출된 쟁점을 기준으로 사례 연구를 실시하여 시각예술 온라인 아카이브의 구축과 운영을 위한 방안을 제안 한 것에 의의가 있다. 시각예술 온라인 아카이브에 대한 연구가 지속적으로 이 루어지고 있는 시점에서 본 연구가 시각예술 온라인 아카이브의 발전 방향 및 과제를 위한 유용한 근거 자료로 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.
