다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This essay examines the current situation of learner``s dictionaries necessary for studying Chinese Characters and Sino-Korean words, and describes our proposal about the future task. When selecting headwords, we need to consider the whole composition of a dictionary, along with student learning goals. We have not had a definite Chinese character type at national level yet. In spite of the difficulty, however, at the very least, we ought to maintain the use of a common character type and font in a common dictionary. We also suggest that the selection and organization of an item’s meaning should be based on Sino-Korean words given as examples in a dictionary, and the Sino-Korean word should be selected from a corpus related to vocabulary that is being learned. The definition of Sino-Korean word needs not only to be simpler and more concise than the Korean dictionary version, but also to reflect the meaning of the grapheme. A learner``s dictionary of Chinese characters does not merely provide linguistic information, but also assumes the form from a comprehensive dictionary. Therefore, when it provides additional information, we should take account of the efficiency of learning or the accuracy of information, rather than the unity of the composition.
