용서과정의 관점에서 본 루이스 부르주아의 작품 분석 -주제와 매체의 변화를 중심으로- = Analysis of Louise Bourgeois' Work from the Point of View of Forgiveness Process Focusing on Change Process of Themes and Media

The present study aims to divide Louise Bourgeois’ art-work process into 4 process based on Enright’s forgiveness process, and analyze the task and psychology of forgiveness in each phase of forgiveness in line with varying media and themes in her works of art. The research methodology of content analysis was applied to Louise Bourgeois’ works of art from 1930's, when she began her career as an artist, to 2010 right before her death. Louise Bourgeois’ works are subdivided into the uncovering phase to expose the source of anger; the decision phase to express the feeling of anger and aggression and to discover the inappropriateness of her ways of dealing with anger; the work phase to understand and sympathize with the person who hurt her; and the deepening phase to reveal forgiveness and reconciliation. In each phase, performance of the task of forgiveness is related to the changes in themes and media as follows. In the uncovering phase, she uses highly restricted media such as pens and prints to represent the feeling of anxiety and anger based on ‘house=woman’ as the source of anger. In the decision phase, under themes of Lair, sex and body, double-sidedness, she uses woods, latex and objets circularly to admit the ineffectiveness of expressing the feeling of anger and aggression and to show a new change in insight. In the work phase, under the themes of rooms and cell's series, spiders and couples, she uses needleworks for strong healing effects leading to recovery, restoration, sympathy and understanding of the person who commits faults, and acceptance of distress. In the deepening phase, under the themes of forgiveness and flowers, she delivers a gentle feeling using painting media such as watercolors characterized by being highly acceptive, and reaches increasing positive feeling and internal liberation as part of her forgiveness work. Overall, Louise Bourgeois’ world of art implies the process of dealing with anger, that is, the process of forgiveness, and reflects the psychology of forgiveness. This study suggests the rationale for the practice of forgiveness art therapy to provide appropriate themes and art media as well as for the art therapy intervention for forgiveness applicable to clients who experience anger in interpersonal relations and need forgiveness.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 루이스 부르주아의 미술 작업 과정을 작품 속의 매체와 주제의 변화에 따라 Enright의 용서과정에 근거하여 4단계로 나누어 보고 용서심리와 용서과정에 따라 분석해 보는 것이다. 1930년대부터 타계 전까지의 미술작업을 대상으로 내용 분석의 연구방법론을 적용하였다. 용서과정은 분노의 근원을 노출하는 개방단계, 자신의 분노해결방식의 부적절성을 발견하며 용서를 이성적으로 결심하는 용서 결정 단계, 상처 준 사람을 이해하고 공감하는 작업단계, 용서와 화해를 드러내는 심화단계로 나눈다. 그녀의 작업은 용서의 개방단계에서 집=여자, 자화상을 주제로 펜, 판화와 같이 통제성이 강한 드로잉 매체를 사용하여 불안과 분노 감정을 나타낸다. 결정단계에서는 은신처, 신체, 성을 주제로 라텍스, 오브제 등을 사용한다. 집과 여자가 분리되고 유동적인 매체 사용은 이전의 분노해결 방식과 통찰의 변화가 일어남을 의미한다. 작업단계에서 밀실, 거미, 부부를 주제로 한 바느질 작업은 회복과 복구 작업을 통하여 인지 재구성이 일어났음을 의미한다. 심화단계에서는 용서, 꽃을 주제로 부드러운 느낌과 수용적 성격이 강한 수채화 물감 등 페인팅 매체로 긍정적인 감정 증가, 내적 해방감을 보여주며 용서작업을 하였다. 본 연구는 대인 관계로부터 용서의 필요성을 가진 내담자를 대상으로 적절한 주제와 미술매체를 제공하기 위한 용서미술치료실제의 이론적 근거를 제시할 수 있음을 시사한다.
