The present study takes notice of a home which is the background of family novels and discloses the relationship between the space of the home and evil. Therefore, the wicked are classified into wicked mothers and wicked wives based on the texts of four works < 김인향전 : Kiminhyang-jeon >, < 장화홍련전Janghwa hongnyeon-jeon >, < 월영낭자전 : Wolyeong nangjajeon > and a printed book < 조생원전 : Josaengwon-jeon >. Each of the wicked mothers is described as viewed from the children of a former wife. A step-mother is a creature not demonstrating the necessity of her existence and becomes a wicked mother because she does not communicate with her children. Each of the wicked wives is described as viewed from her husband. Wives are classified into a successful wife and a failed wife. The successful wife is supported based on the fact that she and her husband is a well-matched couple, and well communicates with her husband, thereby becoming a good wife. In contrast, the failed wife is supported based on the fact that she and her husband is not a well-matched couple, and cannot communicate with her husband, thereby becoming a bad wife. The evil represented in family novels is derived from expectation of their role. It can be known that, if expectation of their role is met, the good is created, and, if not, the wicked is created. In family novels, there is a common point in that the wicked is woman. It imply that women is recognized as an important being which influences affective relationships and wins reorganization only when being within the relationships. Furthermore, the family represented in family novels requires inevitable components as the qualification requirements of the members of the family. In short, the evil represented in family novels is derived from expectation of their role in the family. It can be known that, if expectation of their role is not met, the wicked is created and their`s all actions become misdeeds. As a result, the evil represented in family novels has a passive characteristic as an effort of meeting expectation of their role, rather than an active characteristic.
