위스망스의 『거꾸로』와 세기말의 성(性) = Sexuality of “fin-de-siècle” in A Rebours

In this study we propose to analyze sexual ideas and behaviors of des Esseintes who is the main character of A Rebours and to examine the reasons for his perverse tendency. For this we have followed the process to construct an asexual space of seclusion in which it definitely locks itself up as well as the path of its sexual peregrinations which lead to total anaphrodisia. Once the feminine presence is excluded, the erotic adventures of des Esseintes are presented only in the form of reminiscence and rumination. The analysis of the narratives concerning the mistresses of des Esseintes makes it possible to understand concretely what is the destination of his sexual desire ; andregyne and the artificial change of sex to homosexuality with an effeminate young man passing through the fetish sessions with the ventriloquist, his path is that of evolution of her individual sexual pervesion and also it represents the French society of the At the end of the 19th century beginning to take an interest in phenomena related to sexual perversion. The elements such as heredity, neurosis, anti-bourgeois bias, give this novel a dimension exceeding that of an isolated novelist. Thus, A Rebours acquires the status of repressative novel of end-of-century even in the field of sexuality to bring out the various forms of the sexual perversion condemned by the bourgeoisie.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문에서 우리는 조리스 카를 위스망스의 소설 『거꾸로』의 주인공인 데 제쎙트의 성 개념과 성 행태들을 구체적으로 분석해보고 그 원인들을 고찰하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위해 우선 세상과의 절대적 단절을 이루기 위한 칩거의 배경이 되는 무성(無性)의 공간을 구축하는 과정과 맞물려 주인공의 성적 편력이 성불능에 이르는 과정을 고찰하였다. 칩거 이후 여성의 존재가 배제된 퐁트네의 저택에서 데 제쎙트의 에로틱한 연애담은 전적으로 기억의 통해 재현된 회상과 반추의 형태로 진행된다. 소설의 9장에 집중된 연애의 추억에 대한 분석은 데 제쎙트의 성적 욕망의 지향점이 구체적으로 무엇인지 가늠할 수 있게 한다. 미스 우라니아와의 자웅동체, 인위적인 성 전환의 욕구에서 출발하여, 복화술사와의 페티시즘 실험을 거쳐 여성화된 청년과의 동성애 경험에 이르는 과정은 이 인물이 걸어간 성적 일탈의 여정인 동시에 19세기 말 프랑스 사회에서 폭발적으로 증가하였던 성도착증에 대한 관심과 연구의 반영이기도 하다. 데 제쎙트의 성도착의 원인으로 나타난 유전적 요인, 신경증, 부르주아 사회에 대한 반발 등은 이 소설에 개인적 차원을 넘는 의미를 부여한다. 세기말 부르주아 사회가 단죄하는 성적 일탈과 그 원인들을 일람함으로써 위스망스의 『거꾸로』는 성적 담론의 영역에서도 세기말 공간을 대표하는 소설의 위상을 갖게 되는 것이다
