유식사상과 인성교육: 「유식30송」을 중심으로 = Yogācāra Buddhism and Character Education: Focused on Thirty Verses on Consciousness Only by Vasubandhu

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to clarify the meaning and direction of character education through analyzing Yogācāra Buddhism expressed in thirty verses on Consciousness Only. Generally speaking, Yogācāra Buddhism is summarized in following sentence: ‘Consciousness Only.’ or ‘Mind Only.’ According to that summarized Yogācāra Buddhism, All things that we see before us is manifested by ‘store-consciousness’(ālaya-vijñāna, the eighth consciousness). Store-consciousness is the whole thing that contains all in human mental activities in full flood without any kind of distinction. But store-consciousness is manifested through ‘perception of the sense-consciousness’(the sixth consciousness) and ‘mentation’(the seventh consciousness). So it is possible that the manifestation of store-consciousness is distorted. Therefore buddhist practice is requested: for example, wisdom buddhist practice and virtue buddhist practice According to the yogācāra buddhism summarized above, character in character education should be regarded as store-consciousness. As far as store-consciousness is the whole thing that humankind had thought and said and acted from faraway past, character can become great and beautiful by education. Two methods of character education, in other word, practice-oriented education and subject education play an important role in making character great and beautiful. Merely practice-oriented education requires subject education to overcome it’s weakness. But subject matter can make store-consciousness great and beautiful without other help, as far as it overcome word weakness. The reason is that subject matter is store-consciousness expressed by words.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문의 목적은 「유식30송」에 나타난 유식사상에 비추어 인성교육의 의미와 방향을 고찰하는 데에 있다. ‘오직 식뿐’이라는 유식의 핵심 사상에 의하면, 눈 앞에 보이는 사물이나 현상은 아뢰야식에 의하여 만들어진 아뢰야식의 표현에 해당된다. 아뢰야식은 과거에 행한 일체의 생각과 말과 행동의 결과로서, 인간의 정신활동에 들어오는 모든 것을 한꺼번에 압축해서 포함하고 있는 총체이다. 그러나 아뢰야식은 제6의식과 제7말나식을 거쳐서 표현되고 실현되는 만큼 왜곡될 가능성이 크다. 이 점으로 인하여 지혜자량과 복덕자량이라는 불교수행이 요청된다.
이상의 요약에 나타난 유식사상에 비추어 볼 때, 인성교육에서 다루어야 할 인성은 아뢰야식과 밀접하게 관련된다고 말할 수 있다. 아뢰야식은 과거에 한 일체의 생각과 말과 행동의 결과인 만큼 인간의 노력에 의하여 크고 아름다운 것으로 만들 수 있다. ‘실천위주의 인성교육’과 ‘교과교육’은 아뢰야식을 크고 아름다룬 것으로 만드는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 다만, 실천위주의 인성교육은 그 한계를 극복하기 위하여 교과교육을 필요로 하는 반면, 교과교육은, 언어의 한계를 극복하는 한, 그 자체로 아뢰야식을 크고 아름다운 것으로 만들 수 있다. 교과는 성격상 언어로 표현된 아뢰야식이기 때문이다.
