This study investigates the locational characteristics and spatiotemporal dynamics of Knowledge-Intensive Business Services (KIBS) in Korea, focusing on variations across different knowledge bases. KIBS were categorized into six subtypes by combining technological (T-KIBS) and professional services (P-KIBS) with four knowledge bases: analytical, synthetic, symbolic, and compliance. Using employment share and location quotient (LQ) as indicators, the study applies Global Moran’s and Getis–Ord statistics to examine global and local spatial structures. The findings reveal that KIBS have undergone simultaneous nationwide diffusion and localized concentration, with heterogeneous patterns across subtypes. Symbolic KIBS remain concentrated in metropolitan areas due to face-to-face interaction and tacit knowledge reliance; P-compliance services maintain their presence in major regional hubs; and T-analytical services show emerging clusters in non-capital regions through linkages with universities and research institutes. These results suggest the significance of developing differentiated region- and type-specific strategies that align with the distinct characteristics of each knowledge bases.
