In dealing with flow situation in open or closed-channel flow, the so-called one-dimensinal form of analysis is frequently used. The whole flow is considered to be one large stream tube with average velocity v^(1)at each cross section.
But, in general, the velocity distribution is not uniform^(2). The true momentum is found by integrating the differential momentum from stream line to stream line.
The momentum per unit weight given by v/g, however, is not the average of v/g taken over the cross section. It is necessary to compute a correction factor for v/g, so that v/g is the average momentum per unit weight passing the section. In this paper, the momentum correction factor in a square sectional tube flow is studied.
