Not only did the interest in sports contents increase but also the value of sports rights rose. However, despite great interest in sports rights, the research on sports rights in Korea is insufficient. Hence, this article was developed to review the concept of TV sports rights, the characteristics of sports contents, the expected effects, the sales procedures and the current problems related with sports rights. Sports rights refer to the right to broadcast specific sports content, including live-broadcasts, delayed-broadcasts, and high-lights programs. Sports as a media content particularly for TV, has its own characteristics which distinguish it from other media contents. If broadcasters gain popular sports rights, they can get high ratings and revenue increase. As a result there is terrific competition between buyers. A sports rights is a kind of product, but there are many different sales procedures for sports rights and auctioning is currently the generally used procedure. At present, apart from the rise of sports broadcasting rights rates, there are various problems related with sports rights like universal-access and overseas sports contents.
