      국문 초록 (Abstract)

      예로부터 상당히 광범위한 지역에 관상수로 재배되어 온 무궁화는 우리 나라에 자생하고 있으며, 우리 겨레의 민족성을 나타내는 꽃으로 인식되면서 은연중 나라꽃으로 인정받고 있다. 그러나 우리 민족의 구심점이 될 수 있는 꽃임에도 불구하고, 일제 시대의 굴절된 역사 속에서 식민 잔재의 의식이 남아있어 오늘에 이르기까지 무궁화를 하찮게 취급하고 소흘이 대하지 않았나 하는 조심스런 걱정과 함께 무궁화 교육이 제 3, 4공화국의 군사 문화적 소산이라는 그릇된 인식을 우려하며, 현 시점에서는 무궁화가 우리 나라 꽃이요, 겨레의 꽃임을 자랑스럽고 당당하게 가르쳐지기 위해서는 정규 교육 과정 속에 포함시켜야 한다.

      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      A national flower can be defined the flower or the plant which is considered as an emblem of country, is loved by a people. The era that begins to regard the flower as an emblem of a country is presumed to the mid-19th.
      The national flower of our country, our people is "the Rose of Sharon".
      Originated from the Korean penisula at the prehistoric times, the Rose of Sharon, national flower of Korea, was extolled by Korean people from the era of Dan-gun, the founding father of Korean nation. As the Rose of Sharon was grown at every door of whole territory and could be easily found in any part of vallies across the country, other nations praised Korea as 'the nation of the Rose of Sharon'.
      In the midst of incessant sufferings due to foreign invasions from the period of the three kingdoms and Koryeo to Lee dynasty, 'the Rose of Sharon' spirit has guarded the national spirit and its culture. Furthermore the during the Japanese colonial rule, the Rose of Sharon was threatened by the crisis of extinction as the Japanese regarded it as Korean national flower. With the fact that the Rose of Sharon has been with the lives of the Korean people, it is our own duty for the Rose of Sharon to be beloved by all people in the world through the intensive research hereto.
      As you see, the Rose of Sharon is implicitly perceived in the flower which is symbolized the national identity of our people, at present, it is being recognized as the our national flower.
      In the article, "The Glorification of the Rose of Sharon" carried in vol. 8, no. 6-7 of "The Youth", Woo Ho-ick insisted on the Rose of Sharon as an ideal flower of our people. It was formulated a system of the theory for the Rose of Sharon, at first.
      Therefore, the Rose of Sharon has been participated in our people's joys and sorrows during the 1945 Liberation of Korea and the Korean War. The research and the breeding for the Rose of Sharon have come to stay in the latter half of the 1960th.
      The purpose of this study was to design the model of the curriculumn for education of the Rose of Sharon as a Korean national flower in order to establish the national identity of our people and cultivate the spirits that love our country and people. Consequently, this study was attached to trot out research, materials which needed for the curriculumn development of the Rose of Sharon as a Korean national flower.
