新羅國學 名稱考 = A Study on the Names Concerning the Royal Academy, Kook-hak (國學), in the Silla Dynasty

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis is to identify the usages of the names concerning the royal academy, Kook-hak(國學), and especially the reason why the names were used in Silla Dynasty. The names concerning the royal academy were not only ``Kuk-hak(國學)`` but also ``Tae-hak(大學)``, ``Kuk-ja-gam(國子監)`` and ``Kuk-ja-hak(國子學)``. It was assumed that the contents of historical materials about ``Kuk-hak`` in King Shin-mun(神文王) period were correct. And the conclusions of the study are as follows; Firstly, Silla used the name ``Kuk-hak`` instead of ``Kuk-ja-gam`` because the name of the Chinese royal academy was ``Kuk-ja-gam``, which was the custom Silla must abide by as a subject nation. Secondly, ``Tae-hak(大學)`` was used occasionally instead of ``Kuk-hak``, being a general name standing for the national royal school. Thirdly, ``Kuk-ja-gam`` as well as ``Kuk-ja-hak`` was used informally to elevate their own prestiges.
