      Simulation models can be of great assistance to the engine designers if they give a good representation of the engine system. Their economic value is in the reduction in time and costs for the development of new engines and their technical value is in the identification of areas which require specific attention as the design study evolves.
      Models for spark-ignition engines have been confined to the power cycle, in particular with the identification of the parameters which influence the exhaust emissions.
      In this paper thermodynamic model and equilibrium equations are suggested to calculate the pressure, temperature and gas composition of the burned gas.
