In 1970s, a discussion about information society started in U. S. A. whereas it started in Korea on a full scale after 1990s. There is an expectation that the development of technology & IT will change the whole socirty. Two viewpoints exist how the social inequality will change in such information society. One viewpoint is that new, equal society will be realized after disappearing the existing social inequality, since everyone will enjoy the benefit of information owing to the development of IT. The other point is that the social inequality will be worse and opportunity or expense for approaching information will be equal comparing with the existing inequal structure. The negative aspect of information already makes the difference of information in this society, various researches show that it reflects the existing inequal structure. The government establishes diverse policies to settle the problem, information inequality. Specially, the government will prepare the information education and school facilities about information for the education of juveniles who will represent the information society in the future.
To understand the real condition of juveniles' use of information media, this thesis researched how the social class factors of students would affect the use of information media applying to the academic high school students in Seoul. First, it is surveyed that the viewpoints about information and the actual condition & recognition of information in our society through the results of existing studies and documents. To examine juveniles experience such phenomena, it is researched and anaylized that the possession and use of computers as the representative information media, use of computer communication (Internet), necessary information and the ways of acquring this, satisfaction & understanding degree about the information industry in school. As the result, the social class factors of students such as parents' scholarship, job, or income level didn't affect the students' use of computer, the aim or frequency of using computers, whereas they affected the possibility, time, aim, and expense of using computer communication. In addition, the gender made difference to use computer communication.
Such difference was discovered to some extent in the information used in information society. The kind of information necessary to the students was for the individual satisfaction of interests, so it didn't affect them particularly that the social class factors or the gender. In the ways of information acquisition, most students preferred to the computer communication, so it can be grasped that the juveniles progressed the popularization of information. In this part, however, there was meaningful difference according to the social class factors or the gender.
Generally, the students dissatisfied with the information class in school, they required much more contents in curricula. The analysis of this part showed that the social class factors of fathers affected them more than those of mothers.
According to the above results, we can understand that the social class factors affect the students' use of information media, and the existing inequal structure is reflected on the difference of information partly. Therefore, there are needs to solve the difference of information that students experienced in public education, and it is required that the restructuring of information curricula.
