The educational system of the Korea Military Academy has unique features. A few of them are: (1) cadets are admitted to the Academy rather than to specific department, (2) diverse academic departments ranging from liberal atrs to engineering claim equal share in offering required courses for all cadets, and (3) professional courses directly related to the military profession are yet to be developed. these structural characteristics have contributed to the development and implement of the curriculum that does not reflect cadets' motivations, career objectives, abilities and personal differences. That is why we need a carefully designed structure of tne curriculum.
The educational goal of the Academy should be the professional excellence and the objective of the academic branch should be the academic excellence in relation to the professional excellence. To achieve these goals, the structure of the curriculum should satisfy the following four guidelines. (1) It should be conductive to the education of the military leaders. (2) It should be the one that motivates cadets and helps achieve cadets' needs. (3) It should be the one that motivates teachers and helps achieve teachers' needs. and (4) It should be flexible enough to accommodate new courses to meet professional needs and developments in science and technology. Based on the survey results of the opinions of cadets, teachers and graduates, a structural framework for the curriculum of the Academy is proposed. The main features of the proposal are: (1) The number of the common courses that are required for all cadets regardless of their major should be reduced to the minimum of ten plus alpha. (2) The number of the common courses that are required separately for the cadets of the socila science fields and the science and technology fields should be expanded to twenty plus beta. (3) The number of the major courses should be increased to fifteen plus gamma. (4) Cadets should be allowed to choose courses to meet their career objectives and abilities and personal differences.
