Siberia area in Russia has been given attentions as the origin of the Korean Neolithic culture and is regarded now as the origin of the Korean applique pottery and the micro blade culture with the excavation of the over 10,000 year- old archaic ceramics near the Amur River.
The Neolithic culture of the Amur River began to get attentions in 1930's and its general aspects became generally known by A.P. Okladnikov and A.P. Derebianko. It is classified into the midstream-and the downstream culture. The midstream-culture consists of Novopetrovka culture, Gromatuha culture, and Osinoozera culture. The downstream-culture includes Osipovka culture with archaic pottery, newly discovered Marinskaya culture, Malyshevo culture, Kondon culture and Boznesenovka culture.
There have been 13 explorations of Suchu Island located on the lower Amur River in the past 30 years and 120 inhabitants and remains of structures of Marinskaya culture, Malyshevo culture, and Boznesenovka culture have been found.
12 inhabitants, lots of ceramics, and stone tools have been found in Malyshevo culture remains in Suchu Island. The bowls with applique(raised) strips and impressed pattern with multiple teeth have been mostly found with bifacial stone tools and grinded stone axes. In Boznesenovka culture 9 inhabitants, remains of structures for religious services, and the unique heating system have been found. It has simpler types and patterns of the earthenware, and elaborated stone tools and grinded stone tools. Marinskaya culture, first identified in Suchu Island, also appears to have the micro blade culture.
The inhabitants in Suchu Island are mainly founding mid-south area and upper-west area. In upper-west area, inhabitants are gathered between the trench with a shape of a circle. Many other ruins of structures such as ones for the religious service and holy grounds, and the trench which are useful to infer the aspects of the society and various works of art have been found.
Despite the Neolithic cultures found in Suchu Island and the Amur River have been given attentions with its archaic pottery, there are some problems about the boundaries of each cultures and their relationships with other nearby cultures.
It may be premature to discuss the origin of the Korean Neolithic Culture only with a period or similar remains, ignoring the general aspects of the Neolithic culture of the Amur River.
