황석영 초기 문학에 나타난 탈식민성 = Postcoloniality in the early literature of Hwang Seok-yeong

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

From a consistent point of view, I have focused on ‘Post-colonialism’ in Hwang Seok-Yeong's literatures, because he continuously raised a question on (post)colonialism from his early work 「Tap」 to recent one 『Baridegi』. Accordingly, for my first work, I have intensively studied on the Post-colonialism in the early literatures of Hwang Seok-yeong.
He took a skeptical view of colonial education, so he showed a special favor for ‘reality’ and ‘lower class(subaltern)’. Since Jeon, Tea-il self-burning incident, he urged the people degenerated into outsider(the other) in a strict hierarchial society to be foreground. Furthermore, he moved into the place which the outsided people lived together and spoke for the people through literary movement such as ‘Madanggŭk’. After experiencing ‘Gwangju Uprising and Political Democratization Strife’, be had more radical ideas. He hypothetically considered North Korea as one alternative against post-colonialism. Based on this understanding and recognition, he took a decisive action to visit to North Korea in order to overcome the consciousness of Korean division.
Although anti-America and exclusive dichotomy structure in the early books of Hwang Seok-yeong demonstrate strong resistant intentions, it also contains the problems such as simplification of life and repetitive domination of hierarchy. However, there was new colonial situations representing the dispatch of forces in Vietnam war and Kwangju Uprising and Political Democratization Strife in 1970s and 1980s. We can understand the resistant discourse as ‘strategic essentialism’ stated by Spivak in the circumstances in Korea in 1970s and 1980s.
