This study investigated the factors which influences on children's perspective-taking ability by applying story sharing activity based on the selected theory of mind.
For that purpose, the following research questions were set:
1. Will story sharing activity using picture book which contains elements of theory of mind has positive influences on children's cognitive perspective-taking(perspective-taking of others' intention and thought)?
2. Will story sharing activity using picture book which contains elements of theory of mind has positive influences on children's affective perspective-taking?
The subjects of the study were 38 children ages of 4 from two different groups which has 19 children of each group from 2 different kindergartens located in Dongjak gu and Seocho gu in Seoul.
The test tool for children's social perspective-taking ability by Shin Hyun Ok(1996) is based on the study by Hudson, Forman and Brion(1982) is rectified and supplemented by the examiner.
The children in the experimental group were given story sharing activity with the tools of 12 picture books that contain elements of theory of mind. The finding was based on data collected from 38 children was verified by t-test applied with SPSS 18.0 program.
The results of this study are as follows:
First, the positive effects were partly found in the experimental group of children who were applied the story sharing activity with the tool of picture book which contains the elements of theory of mind to develop children's cognitive perspective-taking ability compared to control group.
Second, the story sharing activity with the tool of picture book which contains the elements of theory of mind has positive effects developing children's affective perspective-taking ability. The above results in the study prove that the story sharing activity with the tool of picture book which contains the elements of theory of mind is an effective program developing children's perspective-taking ability.
