재미 한인 단독가구 노인의 사기(Morale)와 사기에 관련된 변인 연구 = Morale among Korean American Elders Living Alone or with a Spouse only and Its Correlates

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 혼자 또는 배우자와 살고 있는 재미 한인 단독가구 노인의 사기와 이에 상관관계가 있는 변인들을 파악하였다. 구조화된 질문지를 사용해 131명의 노인들과 대면적 면접을 실시하였다. 수정된 Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale을 사용하여 측정한 한인 이민노인의 사기는 전반적으로 낮은 것으로 밝혀졌다. 열네개의 독립변수들과의 상관관계를 분석한 결과 교육수준, 건강, 말동무수, 막역한 친구 수, 자녀와의 친밀감, 독립적 생활기술, 거주지로 미국을 선호하는 것 등의 변인들이 사기와 유의미하게 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다.

This study assesses the morale and its salient correlates among Korean American elders living alone or with a spouse only. Overall, face-to-face interviews with 131 such individuals using a structured questionnaire reveal relatively low morale, as measured by the modified Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale. Correlation analysis of morale with fourteen independent variables shows that education, health, number of companions, number of confidants, intimacy with children, independent living skills, and preference between Korea and the U. S. as a place to live are significant zero-order correlates of morale.
