This study is investigation of the students' perceptions and reactions who took the women's studies classes. One generation has been passed since feminism was introduced in Korea and women's studies courses have been spread in the universitys. But recently, there are claims of useless of women's studies courses, which is insisting that the courses bring reverse discrimination. So the purpose of this study is to find out the meaning of women's studies courses through the research of what is the student's goal and motivation to participate in the course and what is the change after they took the course.
Students take the courses for several reason, some students attend the classes to handle with experience of sex discrimination and want to know how to express their voice to cope with the repression. Sometimes, senior or student who already took the class introduce to other student to take the course.
Many students attending the classes thought that feminism is exclusive insist that claim only women's right and interest before learn what is women's studies courses. However, while participating in the class, they can resolve a misunderstanding for this study and even get perspective for various forms of discrimination, not only sex discrimination. Feminism has brought a lot of changes to Korea society but, still the status of women in Korea is very low compared to OECD countries' position of women. In this respect and considering the changes of students who studied this course, the women's studies as a college course still need to be meaningful.
