The main purpose of this study was to analyze the organic relationship of risk factors which children with developmental disabilities have. The influential factors on disability types were classified based on their characteristics, into a therapeutic educational factor and a socioeconomic factor. Then, the relationship between those two factors and disability types was analyzed using factor analysis, cluster analysis, and ANOVA.
The result showed that the risk factors in children with developmental disabilities were determined based on three dimensions: impulsivity-aggression, immaturity, and neurosis. Based on that result, the disability types were classified into mild-withdrawal type, impulsive-aggressive type, and immatured-neurotic type. While children with mild-withdrawal and children with immatured-neurosis had relatively early therapeutic education, the opportunity of therapeutic education was given last to children with impulsive-aggressive type. Its appropriateness and sufficiency showed the same tendency with the time. The feeling of social isolation, mental/psychological burden, and stress on the family were scored lowest in mild-withdrawal type, but highest in impulsive-aggressive one. Regarding the additional expenditure, all of the three types spent in additional expenditure for therapeutic education. The family of a child with impulsive-aggressive type paid for care-nursing, and immatured-neurosis made a outlay to counseling and diagnose. It also showed that the expenditure on therapeutic education was the most necessary item even in financial crisis. Two main causes of financial difficulty were the cost of therapeutic education and their unsecured job as they needed to take care of the children with developmental disabilities for 24 hours.
