If a philosophical work should be judged more by the problems it poses than by the solutions it offers, then W.W. Bartley's The Retreat to Commitment was, and still is, an important book. I found it exciting when I first read it and When I re-read it the other day I was again impressed by its combination of readability and structured argument.
