Resource leverage, utilization of resources, is as critical as resource scale and resource quality in attaining
competitive advantage, but it has not attracted many researchers’ attention. As a result, there are rare systematic
approaches and few empirical studies on it. Recognizing these problems, this study attempts to discuss resource
leverage strategies claimed by Hamel and Prahalad in 1993. We suggest that converging, accumulating,
complementing, and conserving resources as four prime ways to utilize resources and analyze their impacts on firm
performance. According to empirical results, converging, accumulating, complementing, and conserving resources
significantly affect firm performance in positive ways. It shows that operating or managing resources is a key
success factor for a firm, as much as resource scale and resource quality is, to attain competitive advantage in the
industry. In addition, it is found that converging resources is the most effective, and complementing resources is the
second most effective in utilizing resources. Recovering resources is the fifth way of resource leverage, but it is not
included in the study. It is required to explore another resource leverage strategy. Also, each resource leverage
strategy has subordinate tactics, and it needs to investigate them in future studies.
