The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of medical bills between fee for service and diagnosis-related-groups(DRG) payment. For this purpose, medical bills, term of being hospitalized, and OPD medical care service were compared. The subjects in this study were 756 patients for whom Health Care Inspection and Assessment Institute were charged medical bills in July, August and September, 2000. Among them, 201 was the group that fee for service was applied to, and 555 patients were under the coverage of DRG. The collected data was conducted to see by t-test.
The findings of this study as below.
First, as a result of comparing the term of being hospitalized, the DRG patients who underwent anal, paerianal procedures stayed at hospital for significantly less days than the fee for service patients(t=3.15, p<.01)
Second, the total meidcal bills, copayment by the insured and contribution shared by the employer increased all significantly in the DRG group than in the FFS group.
Third, concerning OPD service, the DRG patients who went throug lens procedures with vitrectomy, anal or perianal procedures paid more for op and treatment(t=-2.94, p<.00) than the FFS patients, but the latter group paid more for examination for lens procedures with vitrectomy(t=3.67, p<.001) than the former.
