This study investigates data gathered from 400 companies listed in the Korean Stock Exchange to explore influence of foreign language ability on export marketing. The findings indicate that English proficiency of the companies is positively related to export marketing ability. As the companies improve English ability of their export marketing staff, they can gather foreign market information and understand foreign business customs better than their competitors, and gain psychological advantages in sales negotiations. Also the study results show that improvement of export marketing ability leads to higher export performance. The higher the ratio of English speaking employees in the exporting marketing department, the better they gather foreign market information, and have higher export intensity than their competitors. The companies which employ a larger number of English speaking employees understand foreign business customs more easily than their competitors, and have higher export growth rate.
