노인의 건강상태가 생활만족도에 미치는 영향에 대한 사회적 관계의 매개효과 및 중재효과 = The Mediating and Moderating Effects of Social Relationship on Health Status and Life Satisfaction of the Elderly

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines the mediating and moderating effects of social relationships (relationships with spouse, children, and friends) in association between health status (the number of disease) and life satisfaction (PGCMS) among the elderly. The data came from the Survey on the Quality of Life of the Elderly in Korea conducted by the Hallym University Aging Society Research Institute from February to March in 2003. Through stratified multi-state random sampling, 889 individuals aged 65 and over who lived in Seoul and Chuncheon, and who had their own spouses and children were selected. Using the multiple regression model proposed by Kenny and Baron, the mediating and moderating effects of social relationship were analyzed. The results indicate that the relationships with children of both men and women have partial mediating effects in association between health status and life satisfaction. The mediating effect of relationship with spouse is significant for only women. The moderating effects of all three types of social relationships are not found significantly in association between health status and life satisfaction. The results of this study suggest that family-focused services like family counseling and family mediation are needed to improve the relationship between older persons and their children and spouses.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 서울과 춘천에 거주하는 노인 883명을 대상으로 노인의 건강상태가 생활만족도에 미치는 영향에 대한 사회적 관계의 매개효과 및 중재효과를 분석하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 사회적 관계는 배우자, 자녀 및 친구와의 관계가 포함되었으며, 관계의 질(quality)에 초점을 두었다. 사회적 관계의 매개효과와 중재효과를 분석하기 위해 Baron과 Kenny가 제시한 다중회귀분석을 적용하였다. 연구결과 자녀와의 관계는 남녀 노인 모두에게 유의한 매개효과를 보였으며, 배우자와의 관계는 여성노인에게만 유의한 매개효과를 나타내었다. 친구와의 관계는 남녀노인 모두에게 매개효과를 보이지 않았으며, 사회적 관계의 중재효과는 유의하지 않았다. 이러한 연구 결과는 우리나라 노인의 생활만족도에 배우자와 자녀와의 가족관계가 중요한 의미를 지닌다는 것을 밝혀주었으며, 따라서 노인의 가족관계 향상을 위한 다양한 개입프로그램의 필요성과 후속 연구를 위한 제안을 제시하였다.
